A 23-year-old man was killed and two relatives injured after a machete attack inside a family home in St Elizabeth.
A quiet community in St Elizabeth has been left in shock following a violent machete attack that claimed the life of one man and left two other family members injured.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday morning in Stephenson Town, Seaview, where police say a dispute inside a family home turned deadly.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old labourer Travis Williams, a resident of the community.
According to preliminary reports, Williams was among three relatives who were allegedly attacked by a male family member armed with a machete sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.
Investigators say the suspect allegedly launched the attack inside the family residence, targeting Travis Williams, a younger brother, and their mother.
During the violent confrontation, Williams sustained severe injuries. Despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his wounds.
The younger sibling and the mother also reportedly suffered injuries during the attack and were transported for medical treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been officially disclosed.
News of the incident quickly spread throughout the community, prompting residents to respond.
According to reports, several community members intervened and managed to restrain the suspect before police officers arrived at the scene. The man was subsequently handed over to law enforcement and taken into custody without further incident.
The tragic event has left many residents struggling to come to terms with what happened. Community members described the attack as deeply disturbing and said such incidents are rare in the area.
Police have since launched a full investigation to determine what led to the deadly confrontation and whether previous disputes may have contributed to the incident.
The body of Travis Williams was later removed from the scene and transported for a post-mortem examination.
At the time of publication, no formal charges had been announced against the suspect as investigators continued gathering witness statements and evidence.
