A St Catherine man faces a murder charge after his girlfriend died days after allegedly being injected with a toxic chemical.
A 51-year-old St Catherine man has been charged with murder after his girlfriend died days after she was allegedly injected with a toxic chemical during a domestic dispute.
The accused has been identified as Paul "Pablo" Stephenson of Harbour Village, St Catherine. The deceased is 29-year-old Tieah Singh of Old Paisley, May Pen, Clarendon.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded on Tuesday, June 9, during an argument between the couple. Investigators allege that around 10:00 a.m., Stephenson used a syringe containing a harmful substance and injected Singh.
Police further allege that he sprayed Singh in the face with pepper spray before transporting her to her home in May Pen and leaving the area.
Shortly afterwards, Singh reportedly began experiencing severe health complications. As her condition worsened, she was rushed to May Pen Hospital, where doctors admitted her for treatment and further medical examinations.
Law enforcement officials were subsequently alerted to the incident, and Stephenson was taken into custody. He was initially charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while doctors continued monitoring Singh's condition.
Medical personnel later reportedly determined that Singh had been exposed to a toxic agricultural chemical. Despite receiving medical treatment, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Thursday, June 11.
Following her death, investigators upgraded the charge against Stephenson from assault occasioning bodily harm to murder.
Authorities have not disclosed what sparked the dispute between the couple, and detectives continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Stephenson remains in the custody of the Old Harbour Police. Officials have confirmed that no bond has been granted, and a court date has not yet been announced.
The case has sparked widespread concern across Jamaica and renewed discussions about domestic violence and relationship-related crimes.
