A St Catherine man has been charged with murder after his girlfriend died days after allegedly being injected with a toxic chemical.

A St Catherine man has been charged with murder after his girlfriend died days after she was allegedly injected with a toxic substance during a domestic dispute.

The accused has been identified as 51-year-old Paul "Pablo" Stephenson of Harbour Village, St Catherine. The deceased is 29-year-old Tieah Singh of Old Paisley, May Pen, Clarendon.

According to police reports, the incident unfolded on Tuesday, June 9, during an argument between the couple. Investigators say that around 10:00 a.m., Stephenson allegedly used a syringe containing a harmful substance and injected Singh.

Police further allege that he also sprayed her with pepper spray before transporting her to her home in May Pen and leaving the area.

Shortly after returning home, Singh reportedly began experiencing severe health complications. Her condition worsened, and she was rushed to May Pen Hospital, where doctors admitted her for urgent treatment and further medical evaluation.

As investigations progressed, law enforcement officers took Stephenson into custody. He was initially charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while doctors continued monitoring Singh's condition.

Medical examinations later reportedly revealed that Singh had been exposed to a toxic agricultural chemical. Despite efforts by healthcare workers to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, June 11.

Following confirmation of her death, police upgraded the charge against Stephenson from assault occasioning bodily harm to murder.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed what led to the dispute between the couple, and investigators continue to gather evidence surrounding the incident.

Stephenson remains in the custody of the Old Harbour Police as detectives continue their probe. Officials have confirmed that no bond has been granted at this stage.

The matter is expected to proceed before the courts, although a date for the case to be mentioned has not yet been announced.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion online and renewed concerns about domestic violence and relationship-related crimes across Jamaica.

Police investigations remain ongoing.
